Sometimes you just need to spend a weekend being yourself.
That sounds weird but we’re so many different people all the time without even trying. We’re loving girlfriends, thoughtful daughters, good employees, colleagues, friends, tenants, sisters, step-mothers, agony aunts and shoulders to cry on… and that’s not a bad thing. It’s healthy but it’s also healthy to occasionally pare that back a bit, pick one and indulge. Spending a week away with your significant other and just being the loving girlfriend for example. Or visiting family and being the thoughtful daughter. Or sticking a massive jumper on and heading down to the coast despite the shit weather for a mosey around Tynemouth market and a coffee with a friend in a cosy cafe. These are the kind of days that recharge our batteries, make us realise what’s important and inspire us to do better. Occasionally we need a kick up the arse to get things moving again.
I’m fully aware that this is a sickeningly cheesy post but don’t worry, I’m not going to harp on and on about it. I’d just like to remind you chaps to waste a morning or an afternoon ignoring your obligations and focus on the little stuff. Just now and then. That’s all.
Photo credit for this snap of me to (and this weekend’s shove-in-the-right-direction courtesy of) Hannah Layford. Yes, that is my actual face and only slightly obscured by cup. Such novelty.
